FAQs Belkyra

Permanent solution for under-chin fullness at GhalMedica, Pointe-Claire

  • What is Belkyra®?

Belkyra® is an injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells under the chin using deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. It helps reduce the appearance of a double chin and creates a more defined jawline without surgery.

  • How does Belkyra work?

Belkyra targets and breaks down fat cells beneath the skin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store fat, and your body naturally eliminates them over time.

  • What areas can be treated with Belkyra?

Belkyra is approved for treating submental fullness (fat under the chin). It is not intended for other areas of the body.

  • How many sessions will I need?

Most people need 2–4 sessions, spaced about 4–6 weeks apart, depending on the amount of fat and your desired results.

  • Is there downtime?

You may experience swelling, redness, or tenderness for a few days after treatment. Swelling is most noticeable in the first week and is a sign the treatment is working.

  • What results can I expect?

Results are gradual, with visible changes typically seen after 2–3 treatments. Once the fat cells are eliminated, results are permanent, provided you maintain your weight.

  • Who is a good candidate?

You may be a good candidate if:

You have stubborn under-chin fat that doesn’t go away with diet or exercise.

You prefer a non-surgical option for contouring the jawline.

    Your skin has good elasticity.

  • Are there any risks?

Possible side effects include swelling, bruising, numbness, and temporary hardness in the treated area. Serious complications are rare when performed by a qualified injector.

  • How is Belkyra different from Kybella?

They are the same treatment—Belkyra is the Canadian name, and Kybella is used in the U.S.

  • Can Belkyra be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Many patients combine Belkyra with skin tightening treatments like Morpheus8 for enhanced jawline definition.
